Fiat introduced the 124 Sport Coupe in 1967. Styled in-house at Fiat, the 124 Sport Coupe was a range of four seat coupes powered by a range of inline four engines built on a shortened Fiat 124 platform. The Sport Coupe was built over three series: AC (1967-1969), BC (1969-1972), and CC (1972-1975). Production of the 124 Sport Coupe ended in 1975.

First known as the 124 Spider, when introduced in 1966, the car sported a 1500 cc DOHC four-cylinder engine that over the years went up and down in displacement several times, with most of the cars sold in the U.S. being 1756 cc and 1995 cc, both variants equipped with a single Weber carburetor.

The Fiat 124 was also briefly produced in Bulgaria (1967 - 1971) based on CKD kits. On the Asian side, Turkey produced and marketed it as the Murat 124 (1971 - 1977) and the Serce (or "Sparrow") (1984 - 1988). Fiat 124's popularity extended as far as South Korea where Asia Motors manufactured it as Fiat-KIA between 1971 and 1975.
