Ethiopian Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft, opening a new chapter for the East African carrier, which also becomes the first African A350 XWB operator. The airline's first aircraft, on lease from AerCap, arrived in Addis Ababa on June 29th, 2016. A350-900s with a two class layout with a total of 343 seats.

The A350 is the world's most modern and efficient widebody aircraft and the long range leader in the 300-410 seater category, flying efficiently on any sector from short-haul to ultra-long-haul routes up to 9,700nm.


Ethiopian Airlines' first Airbus A350

Ethiopian Airlines has added a thrice-weekly service from Addis Ababa to London Gatwick using the Airbus A350. It will now serve London Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester Airports. All Ethiopian A350-900 kept flying Not surprisingly, Ethiopian used its entire A350-900 fleet for cargo operations. Seven out of its 16 extra-wide body aircraft have been converted to freighters by removing all economy seats. The other nine are used either for passengers or for cargo loaded on the economy seats.

Ethiopian Airlines has already ordered 22 A350-900s, of which 16 aircraft have been delivered. With the A350-1000 upsizing, Ethiopian Airlines' backlog consists of four A350-1000s and two A350-900s.

Ethiopian Airlines' first Airbus A350

The last A350-900 . According to ch-aviation.com, this latest delivery is the final Ethiopian Airlines' A350-900 expected at the carrier. However, the website notes that it is still expecting to take delivery of four Airbus A350-1000s.

Ethiopian Airlines orders more Airbus A350 jets Ethiopian Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding for 11 additional Airbus A350-900s, to be added to the carrier's existing fleet. Ethiopian currently has a fleet of 20 A350-900s, which are an average of just under five years old.
